DNC Chairman Tears Into President Trump Following Latest Controversial Decision
On Monday, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez released a statement following President Trump’s latest controversial decision.
The Trump administration recently ended the protected status of more than 200,000 immigrants from El Salvador.
According to The Washington Post. “The administration said it will give the Salvadorans until Sept. 9, 2019, to leave the United States or find a way to obtain legal residency, according to a statement Monday from the Department of Homeland Security. The Salvadorans were granted what is known as Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, after earthquakes hit the country in 2001, and their permits have been renewed on an 18-month basis since then.”
“This is a cruel and heartless decision by a cruel and heartless president. By targeting those who were driven from their homes by environmental catastrophe and violence in El Salvador, Donald Trump is tearing more working families apart — putting their lives at risk, threatening our economy, and turning his back on the values that have made America great,” Perez stated.
He continued, writing, “America is great when we respond to humanitarian crises by helping those in need, not banishing them from our borders. Democrats believe that diversity and compassion are our country’s greatest strengths, and we will continue to fight for the courageous immigrant families who make our country better every day.”
