Trump Targets Bernie Sander's New Policy Initiative

"President Donald Trump panned Sen. Bernie Sanders' single-payer health care plan, dramatically calling it a "curse" on Americans.

"Bernie Sanders is pushing hard for a single payer healthcare plan - a curse on the U.S. & its people," Trump tweeted Thursday afternoon. "I told Republicans to approve healthcare fast or this would happen. But don't worry, I will veto because I love our country & its people."

Sanders introduced this week his Medicare for All legislation, which drew support from a number of liberals, including high-profile 2020 contenders. But most of the Democratic Party’s congressional leaders and vulnerable Senate incumbents steered clear of the bill.

Trump has continued to push to repeal and replace Obamacare, even after Republicans have spent months trying and failing to pass such legislation. He also faces an end-of-September deadline to pass a health care reform package through the Senate by a simple majority."

Trump has been hesitant to go after Sanders in the past but something seems different this time. Perhaps Sanders is more vulnerable to criticism after actually proposing legislation - something the Trump administration has done very little of. Regardless of anything, Trump has to say it seems America is heading in the direction of single payer whether Sanders has any role in it or not.
