Joe Biden Appears With Mega Star to Send Americans a Very Important Message [Video]
Lady Gaga and former Vice President Joe Biden appeared in a public service announcement together to discuss sexual assault.
The minute-long video, which was posted on Lady Gaga’s Twitter account Wednesday, showed the singer and the politician sitting side by side. Biden began speaking first, calling Lady Gaga “a great friend and a fierce advocate.”
Biden called Lady Gaga a “voice” for those who were abused and admired the courage she showed. Biden called on everyone to speak out if they see sexual assault occur.
“And we want to make it real clear. It’s on us, it’s on everyone to intervene — to stop abuse when they see it and when they hear about it, to intervene. No man has a right to raise a hand to a woman for any reason other than self-defense,” Biden said.
Lady Gaga spoke next, referring briefly to her experience with sexual assault and its aftermath.
Biden and Lady Gaga were promoting the “It’s On Us” campaign. Biden and former President Barack Obama launched the initiative in 2014 in an effort to end sexual assault on college campuses, The Hill reported.
Lady Gaga’s song, “Til it Happens to You” was featured in the 2015 documentary “The Hunting Ground,” which focused on sexual assault cases on college campuses. The song was nominated for an Academy Award. Biden introduced Lady Gaga’s performance of the song at the 88th Academy Awards.
